Releasing our butterflies!

Grandma and Grandpa Truesdell ordered Ian a butterfly garden for his birthday... the butterfly larvae actually arrived in the mail a week before his birthday.

All of the boys were SUPER excited to grow butterflies... we didn't really have to do much other than just watch them eat and grow... it's pretty fascinating to watch them morph from little larvae, to caterpillars then to Painted Lady butterflies... we had about 18 butterflies successfully complete the whole process and survive.

We had to keep them inside the house a few extra days even after they all came out of their cocoons as butterflies because it was too cold and wet outside to release them... we finally decided it was safe to release them in Grandpa Campbell's garden the first week in June.

All four of the older boys took part in the releasing of the butterflies...

This one below escaped while the boys weren't looking!

We're hoping, in the near future, to have dozens of more opportunities to raise butterflies so that they can hang out with us in our backyard now that it's finished!!! We'd LOVE to watch them flutter around!
